If you’re wondering how to have better girl-to-girl talks with your teen, here are 5 important things to keep in mind: Start from connection, not correction. Open the door, don’t close it with criticism. Before jumping in with advice, begin with openness. Try: “I’m really glad you’re sharing this with me.” Listen without interrupting. Let her words come out before yours do. Validate her feelings. Try: “That sounds really tough, I get why you’d feel that way.” Don’t rush to fix. Sometimes she just wants your presence, not your solution. Try: “Do you want me to help with this, or just listen right now?” Leave space for silence. She might circle back later, be ready. These aren’t just parenting strategies, they’re trust-builders. 💬 What’s one small thing that’s helped you connect with your daughter lately? #GirlTalk #ParentingTeenGirls #RaisingDaughters #ParentingTips #HowToTalkToKids #DrRobynSilverman #IntentionalParenting #ConnectedConversations #MomAndDaughterMoments

Be There, Be Available #shorts
It’s never just about watching the movie. It’s the shared laughter, the quick glances after a dramatic scene, the unspoken comfort of simply sitting close. These small, still moments? They build a connection. No big speech. No deep talk. Just presence. Because one day they’ll be out the door. But today, they’re still here, on this couch, by your side. #ParentingPresence #SlowMoments #RaisingKids #ParentingTweens #HowToTalkToKids #DrRobynSilverman #MomLife

Asking Powerful Questions to Your Kids #shorts
One of the most powerful tools we can give our kids isn’t a perfect answer, it’s a thoughtful question. When we ask questions like: ❓ “What do you really want?” ❓ “What do you think your next step could be?” ❓ “How can I help?” We empower our children to think critically, reflect deeply, and grow with confidence. Powerful questions show our kids that we believe in their abilities. That we trust them to lead and learn, not just follow instructions. And when they feel heard and valued, that’s when the magic happens. Want more scripts and tools like these? My book, How to Talk to Kids About Anything, is filled with practical conversation starters you can use today. 📘 www.DrRobynSilverman.com 🎤 Clip from a past event with NYC Parents in Action (PIA), grateful to have shared this message with a room full of engaged and thoughtful parents. #DrRobynSilverman #PowerfulQuestions #HowToTalkToKids #ParentingTools #RaisingResilientKids #LeadershipInParenting #ParentingWisdom #PIAEvent #MindfulParenting #ParentingWithPurpose #ConnectedFamilies #AskMoreListenMore

How to Teach Your Kids to be Assertive without Taking Over #shorts
Want to raise a child who can speak up for themselves without shouting, pushing, or shutting others down? Assertiveness isn’t about being loud. It’s about being clear, kind, and confident. 💬 Here’s how we can start teaching it today: 1️⃣ Help them own their voice without silencing others Say: “I’d like a turn now, too,” instead of yelling or grabbing. 2️⃣ Support boundary-setting without bulldozing Say: “Please don’t do that. I don’t like it,” and still be respectful. 3️⃣ Encourage asking instead of assuming Say: “Can I have a turn when you’re done?” instead of “Move, I want to play now.” Assertiveness isn’t about control it’s about connection. And when kids learn how to speak up and listen, everyone grows. 📘 Find more kid-friendly scripts and guidance in How to Talk to Kids About Anything. How to Talk to Kids about Bullying #shorts
If your child is being bullied, please, don’t just tell them to “ignore it.” They need tools, not silence. They need your voice reminding them that they’re not alone, and that it’s okay to speak up. Here are 3 powerful ways to help your child respond to bullying: 1️⃣ Name the behavior: Say, “That sounds like bullying behavior. No one deserves to be treated that way.” 2️⃣ Practice power scripts: Help them say, “That’s not okay,” or “Cut it out,” until the words feel natural and strong. 3️⃣ Offer backup plans: Give them language to ask for help, “I’m not okay with this”, and walk toward safety, not just away. And remember, telling an adult is not tattling. It’s standing up for yourself. You’re not raising a target. You’re raising a voice. Let’s help our kids learn how to use it. 📘 I share more on how to talk to kids about bullying, boundaries, and bravery in my book How to Talk to Kids About Anything. How to Teach Kids to Aim Excellence and not Perfection #shorts
Let’s raise kids who strive for excellence, not perfection. Perfection is pressure. Excellence is growth. And when we teach our kids the difference, we empower them to take healthy risks, bounce back from setbacks, and feel proud of their effort, not just the outcome. Here are 3 ways to shift the mindset at home: 1️⃣ Praise the process, not just the product. 2️⃣ Normalize mistakes as part of learning. 3️⃣ Redefine what “doing your best” really means. Your best doesn’t mean flawless, it means you showed up and gave what you had that day. And that is enough. Let’s raise resilient kids who feel confident trying, failing, learning, and growing. 📘 I talk more about this in my book "How to Talk to Kids About Anything" Get your copy at www.DrRobynSilverman.com #HowToTalkToKids #GrowthMindset #ParentingTips #Perfectionism #ExcellenceOverPerfection #ResilientKids #PositiveParenting #RaisingConfidentKids #DrRobynSilverman

Podcast Recap Start the Conversation with Janine Haloran #shorts
Sometimes it’s not the planned moments that stick with our kids, it’s what they overhear. When a child hears a parent apologize, celebrate their strengths, or admire who they’re becoming, it creates a story they’ll carry for life. They’ll retell it, replay it, and remember it. In this clip from my conversation with Janine Halloran on the Calm and Connected podcast, we talk about the power of small, unscripted moments in parenting, and how they often matter most. Just start the conversation. Keep talking. They’re listening. How to Talk about Love, Trauma, Fostering, and Family with Peter Mutabazi #shorts
When a child makes a mistake, too often we bring up everything they’ve done wrong in the past. But as Peter Mutabazi shared on the podcast, that can send the message that growth doesn’t matter. That no matter how hard they try, their past will always define them. And what does that lead to? A child who stops trying. I loved how Peter talked about his first foster placement, how that child struggled with meltdowns at school. Five days in a row of full-out tantrums. But then something happened. It dropped to four. Then to three. Then two. And Peter celebrated every one of those steps. He didn’t ignore the struggle, but he focused on progress rather than just problems. This conversation reminded me of how powerful it is to honor the small wins, the efforts, the nearly-there moments that show kids they are growing. That they are seen. That they are more than their worst day. In this week’s episode of How to Talk to Kids About Anything, Peter Mutabazi and I talk about love, trauma, fostering, and the powerful lessons we learn when we show up for kids again and again, especially when they’re hurting.” 🎧 Tune in wherever you get your podcasts and share with someone who needs this message today. #ParentingWithPurpose #FosterCareLove #ChildDevelopment #ProgressNotPerfection #HowToTalkToKids #DrRobynSilverman #PeterMutabazi #ParentingPodcast #TraumaInformedParenting

Dr Robyn at 104.1 FM KMOX How to Talk to Kids About Anything #shorts
What if parenting didn’t require all the perfect answers, but just the courage to have the conversation? In this interview with 𝗗𝗲𝗯𝗯𝗶𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗼𝗺 𝗔𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝟭𝟬𝟰.𝟭 𝗙𝗠 𝗞𝗠𝗢𝗫, I shared a truth every parent needs to hear: if we’re not talking to our kids about the tough stuff, bullying, friendship, failure, big emotions, someone else will. And we may not like what they have to say. The good news? We don’t need to get it all right. We just need to show up, try, and be willing to try again. Parenting isn’t one big talk... It’s a series of little conversations that build trust over time. Whether you're helping your child navigate friendships, bounce back from mistakes, or come to you with something hard, remember: it starts with listening, validating, and being there without judgment. Let’s raise kids who feel safe coming to us, even when it's uncomfortable. 📘 For more scripts, guidance, and support, check out How to Talk to Kids About Anything Available at www.DrRobynSilverman.com #HowToTalkToKids #ParentingSupport #ConnectedParenting #RaisingResilientKids #ToughConversations #ParentingAdvice #DrRobynSilverman #DebbieMonterrey #TomAckerman #KMOXRadio #1041FM

Parenting Goal Be the Person They Come To #shorts
What’s the number one topic parents feel most uncomfortable talking to their kids about? Whether it’s death, puberty, sex, or pornography, many parents freeze, change the subject, or avoid it altogether. But the truth is, our kids are already asking these questions. The real question is: will we be the ones they trust enough to answer them? In this conversation with Dr. Robert Melillo, I shared what I often tell parents: your voice should be the one inside your child’s head when they’re faced with a tough situation. That moment when someone offers them a drink, or they stumble across something online, they should hear you. That’s the parenting goal. Not to have all the perfect words, but to be the safe, trusted source they turn to. Let’s lean into the hard conversations, because silence speaks, too. 📘 Want more help with what to say and how to say it? Teach Your Kids to Choose the Right Friends #shorts
💣TRUTH BOMB! Some “friends” suck, don’t they? Those are not real friends. Give a if you agree. Teach Your Kids to Choose the Right Friends 🚩 Not everyone will celebrate your child’s success, and that’s an important lesson for kids to learn. Some “friends” may feel threatened when others shine, while true friends lift each other higher and celebrate each other’s wins. As parents, we can teach our kids to recognize the difference. Encourage them to surround themselves with people who fill their cup, cheer them on, and want the best for them. When they find friends who uplift them, they’ll feel confident being ALL of themselves! Chapter 8 of How to Talk to Kids about Anything is all about talking to kids about friendship and bullying. Unlock the Secret to Tough Talks with Kids #shorts
Reuploading this clip from @WhatFreshHellPodcast because... So many of us wish someone had talked to us openly about the tough topics. But back then, most of us didn’t have the words or the guidance. Now, as parents and caring adults, we have the gift of time and the opportunity to do it differently. Our kids want to be prepared. They want real information. They don’t want to be caught off guard in the moments that matter. Let’s give them the language, tools, and confidence they need to navigate life. Diversity - Leadership Skills #shorts
Talking to kids about differences like race, gender, ability, and neurodiversity can feel uncomfortable. But silence speaks too, and often louder than we realize. Noticing differences isn’t rude; it’s real. And pretending we don’t see them can unintentionally erase someone’s lived experience. Instead of saying “I don’t see color” or “I don’t see disability,” we can help our children become curious and kind. Try asking: What differences have you noticed? How do those differences shape someone’s life? How do you want to be seen? The goal is not to ignore what makes us unique. It is to see each other fully, listen deeply, and understand more, even when it feels a little uncomfortable. That’s where empathy and real connection begin. #ParentingWithPurpose #TalkingAboutDifferences #InclusionStartsAtHome #HowToTalkToKids #RaisingKindKids #SeeingTheWholePerson #DrRobynSilverman

MetaView Leadership Skill #shorts
Ever had a teen, student, or even a colleague come to you completely overwhelmed and unable to see a way forward? When emotions run high and they’re stuck in the weeds, logic and perspective go out the window. That’s when the MetaView tool comes in. Instead of jumping in to fix it, help them zoom out. Ask: What can you see from here that you couldn’t see before? What patterns do you notice? What are you really working toward? You’re not solving the problem for them, you’re helping them reset their lens, reclaim their purpose, and remember how far they’ve come. MetaView is a leadership tool, a parenting tool, and a life tool. Save it for the next time someone you care about needs help zooming out. What helps you shift perspective when you’re feeling stuck? How to Talk to Kids about Sx Assault #shorts
It's more important than ever to have open and honest conversations with our kids about sex, consent, and relationships. Let's break the silence! Teaching our kids about these crucial topics is essential for their emotional and physical well-being. It's not a one-time talk, but an ongoing conversation that shows them we're a safe place to ask questions, feel seen, and get real answers. By being open, honest, and approachable, we can help our kids develop healthy relationships and a positive sense of self. It's time to take control of the conversation and start talking to our kids about the things that matter most. Want to know more about how to have these conversations? I go deeper into the importance of consent and relationships in Chapter 3 of my book - link in bio!
