How to Calm Kids Nerves Before Halloween #shorts
ππ» Is your child spooked by all things Halloween? You’re not alone! Here are 5 ways to calm nerves and help kids build courage one small step at a time: 1️⃣ Start with baby steps — go out early while it’s still light. 2️⃣ Bring a buddy or older sibling for confidence. 3️⃣ Pick a funny, non-scary costume to keep it light. 4️⃣ Show spooky costumes in the bag first—remind them it’s just pretend. 5️⃣ Don’t dismiss their fear—validate it! It’s okay to feel scared and brave at the same time. π ✨ We’re not avoiding fear—we’re helping kids face it, little by little. Because courage grows in small steps… and Halloween should be fun, not frightening! π For more tools to help you talk about tough topics, check out How to Talk to Kids About Anything. #HowToTalkToKids #DrRobynSilverman #ParentingTips #HalloweenWithKids #RaisingBraveKids #EmotionalIntelligence

A great way to connect with your teenager! #shorts
Parenting teens is a whole new chapter — new feelings, new challenges, and a whole lot of independence ✨ But connection doesn’t have to disappear as they grow. We just have to get a little more creative. One of the easiest ways to open the door to real conversation? π Car chats. No pressure. No direct eye contact. Just the road, the music, and space to talk when they’re ready. That’s where the best “out of nowhere” sharing tends to happen. Try it on your next drive — even a quick errand can become an unexpected heart-to-heart. π Follow @dr.robynsilverman for more simple strategies to build strong, confident connections with your teens. #parentingteens #teenconnection #parentingtips #strongrelationships #talktokids #howtotalktokids #positiveparenting #raisegoodhumans

Tips to help your child learn to express their emotions #shorts
Tips to help your child learn to express their emotions: 1️⃣ Use of Emotional Wheels: Use emotional wheels to help children identify and label their feelings. This tool can facilitate discussions about emotions by asking kids to describe how they're feeling and recognizing emotional cues in themselves and others. This approach helps children become more aware of their emotions and the emotions of people around them 2️⃣ Expanding Emotional Vocabulary: Getting specific about emotions allows children to seek appropriate help when needed. By using tools like feelings charts or wheels placed where children can see them, parents can help increase their children's emotional vocabulary. Simple questions about how they're feeling or how they think someone else is feeling can aid in this development. 3️⃣ Acknowledging and Validating Feelings: Acknowledge your children's feelings as valid and help them understand that it's okay to experience a range of emotions. This involves teaching children that sadness and fear are natural emotions that can be discussed openly 4️⃣ Modeling Emotional Expression: Parents are encouraged to share their own feelings in age-appropriate ways to show children how to handle emotions healthily. This modeling includes expressing negative emotions and coping with them constructively 5️⃣ Teaching Coping Strategies: Introducing calming techniques and coping strategies for managing fear, anxiety, and other intense emotions. Helping children learn how to express, label, and navigate their feelings can equip them with the tools needed to handle emotional situations more effectively Want more in-depth tips, context-based examples, and a whole lot of other tools like the emotional wheels? πPick up your copy of “How to Talk to Kids About Anything,” #Parenting #ParentingTips #Parenting101

Phrases to Teach Kids to Say with Confidence when Things feel hard #shorts
When kids feel challenged, the words they say to themselves matter more than anything we say to them. That’s why we don’t just correct their mindset — we give them language that builds it. Here are the kinds of phrases I teach children to say with confidence when things feel hard: ✨ I can do hard things. ✨ I am enough — my performance doesn’t determine my worth. ✨ I trust myself. ✨ I am fully capable. ✨ I can’t do it yet, but I’m learning. ✨ I believe in me. ✨ Making mistakes means my brain is growing. These aren’t just affirmations — they’re mental anchors. The more our kids practice them, the more their inner voice becomes a source of strength rather than self-doubt. Want more language to help your kids grow confidence from the inside out? Avoid These Conversation Stoppers #shorts
Want your kids to come to you when they’ve made a mistake? Here’s where to start. In Chapter 7 of How to Talk to Kids About Anything, I talk about the common conversation stoppers that can shut kids down—and what to say instead to keep the door open. Stopper 1: Dismissing their feelings Instead of: “You don’t really feel that way.” Try: “I can feel how angry you are. That felt like a betrayal.” Stopper 2: Punishing honesty Instead of: “I can’t believe you did that. No phone for a week.” Try: “Thank you for coming to me. That took courage. Let’s talk it through together.” Stopper 3: Unsolicited advice Instead of: “If it were me, I’d…” Try: “What would be most helpful right now—advice, a hug, or just someone to listen?” We don’t need to fix everything—we just need to be safe enough for our kids to come to us, even when it’s hard. I go deeper into this in Chapter 7 of my book, How to Talk to Kids About Anything. Which conversation stopper resonated most with you? I’ve done them all. Let’s grow together. #HowToTalkToKids #ParentingAdvice #EmotionalSafety #DrRobynSilverman #ConnectedParenting #ParentingSupport

Saying No in a Way Teens Can Hear #shorts
Teens often hear “no” as “I don’t trust you.” But the truth is, most of the time we do trust our kids — it’s the situation, the unknowns, or the risks we’re unsure about. A response like this keeps the boundary and the relationship intact. ✔ You protect their safety. ✔ You protect the connection. ✔ You show them they can come to you again. Have you ever had to set a boundary your teen didn’t like? How did you handle it? #Parenting101 #parenting #howtotalktoteens #parentingteens #drrobynsilverman

Read Caption! #shorts
Let's dive right into a crucial topic: Anger. Everyone experiences anger, but not everyone handles it in the same way. How, then, do we guide our children in understanding and expressing their anger effectively? Here are 3️⃣ transformative strategies every parent should be using: 1️⃣ Model Healthy Anger Expression Children learn from watching us. If we can express our anger constructively, they pick up on that. Next time you're irritated, try saying, "I'm feeling really angry right now because my computer isn't working. I'm going to take some deep breaths to calm down and then find a solution." 2️⃣ Teach Problem-Solving Skills Rather than dismissing or penalizing anger, it's crucial to teach children how to address and resolve it. Help them understand the reasons behind their anger and find actionable solutions. For instance, if your child is upset over losing a game, you might say, "I see you're upset about the game. Let's talk about what we can do differently next time." 3️⃣ Validate and Allow Space for Anger It's important for kids to know that feeling angry is okay and they have the right to express it. Provide a non-judgmental space for them to vent their feelings. When your child is visibly angry, you could respond with, "I understand that you're very angry right now, and that's completely okay. I'm here to listen whenever you're ready to talk." Teaching children to navigate and express their anger healthily is key to developing their emotional intelligence. By using these approaches, we can guide our children through their emotions in a supportive and understanding way. πPick up your copy of “How to Talk to Kids About Anything” #parenting #momlife #parenthood #parentinghacks #emotionalintelligence #mom #parents #dad #parentinglife #positiveparenting #childdevelopment #parentingtips #gentleparent #intentionalparenting #positiveparentingeducation

How to Deal with Disrespectful Behavior #shorts
π‘ When your child talks back, rolls their eyes, or lashes out—it’s easy to lose your cool. But disrespect is often a *signal,* not just bad behavior. Here’s how to respond in a way that builds emotional intelligence instead of escalating conflict π 1️⃣ **Lead with empathy.** Get to eye level. Show them you *see* their frustration. 2️⃣ **Validate the feeling, not the behavior.** It’s okay to feel angry—it’s not okay to hurt others. 3️⃣ **Coach better expression.** Try: “I feel mad when you take my toy,” instead of yelling or hitting. π¬ When we model calm communication, we teach our kids to manage emotions, not fear them. π Follow @dr.robynsilverman for more insight on **how to talk to kids about anything**—even the hard stuff. #HowToTalkToKids #DrRobynSilverman #ParentingTips #EmotionalIntelligence #RespectfulParenting #BigFeelings

Parents Make Mistakes #shorts
Failure is a big part of life! π« I would argue maybe one of the most important parts. As a parent, adult, and a daughter myself, I can proudly claim that I am where I am today because of all the times I have failed in my life. The lessons I learned from my failures are instrumental to who I am today. And as a parent, I want my child or any child to fail as often as possible. Failure shows that they’re trying, learning, and growing. Failure means that they’re figuring things out on their own. And at the risk of sound cliché, failure means they’re on the path to success. This doesn’t mean your kids fail and get back up on their own. You need to be there to support them, reassure them, and help them grasp what the failure has taught them.
