When our kids compare themselves to everyone else, they’re handing their power away, tying their confidence to what others do instead of what they can do. One of the best gifts we can give our children is the ability to stand strong in who they are, even when they notice what others have or how others perform. Real mental strength comes from within, and it’s something we can help our kids grow every single day. Instead of asking, “How do I measure up?” we want our kids to ask, “How am I growing? What do I need to feel proud of myself?” Try these ideas: • Teach your child to create a simple catchphrase that reminds them of their power, “I can do it” or “I am enough.” • Encourage them to write down their strengths and stick that note where they’ll see it every day, a mirror, their binder, or their desk. • Help them chart their own progress, not someone else’s. Our kids can’t always control what others do, but they can learn to see, appreciate, and strengthen what makes them shine. That’s true mental strength.
