It’s about practicing adaptability, again and again, so they grow the confidence to handle life’s curveballs with courage. How to Help Kids Learn How to Give #shorts

I've found that when kids see the why behind giving, something shifts, it’s no longer about letting go of stuff, it’s about lifting someone else up. When we make giving tangible, meaningful, and part of our family identity, we raise kids who want to give, not just because they’re told to, but because it feels right. So next time your child outgrows a toy or gets birthday money, ask: Who could this help? Because giving isn’t just a moment. It’s a mindset. And we get to help shape it. #RaisingGivers #CharityStartsAtHome #ParentingScripts #PowerfulWords #FamilyValues #DrRobynSilverman #HowToTalkToKids #ChildDevelopment #EmpathyInAction

How to Help Kids Strive for Excellence #shorts

Excellence doesn’t come from getting everything right the first time, it comes from asking bold questions, embracing challenges, and knowing when to reach out for help. When kids understand that growth isn’t about being perfect, but about staying curious and brave, they stop fearing mistakes and start seeking progress. So next time your child struggles, remind them: Striving for excellence means showing up, staying in it, and growing through it. That’s the real win. #ExcellenceOverPerfection #GrowthMindset #ParentingScripts #HowToTalkToKids #RaisingResilientKids #DrRobynSilverman #PowerfulWords #ChildDevelopment #LeadershipStartsYoung

How to Argue Less, Talk More, Communicate Better with Jefferson Fisher #shorts

When our kids say something rude or off-putting, our first instinct might be to scold. But what if we paused, and got curious instead? In my recent conversation with Jefferson Fisher on the podcast, he shared a powerful strategy I absolutely love: Ask them to repeat it. Most kids won’t say it the same way twice. Why? Because deep down, they know it wasn’t okay. Then, follow with a question of intent: “Did you say that to hurt my feelings?” It opens a doorway to empathy and awareness, without a lecture. Kids are constantly testing out language, tone, and power. Let’s guide them with calm, curiosity, and connection. 🎙 Catch the full conversation on How to Talk to Kids about Conflict and Communicating with Calm, featuring Jefferson Fisher on the How to Talk to Kids about Anything podcast. #HowToTalkToKids #ParentingTips #RaisingEmotionallyIntelligentKids #DrRobynSilverman #JeffersonFisher #ParentingScripts #PeacefulParenting #EmpathyInParenting #CalmCommunication

3 Steps Reset Every Child Can Learn #shorts

I’ve watched my own kids go from total frustration to calm problem-solvers using this exact reset. And honestly? I’ve had to use it myself more than once. Because plans fall through, that’s life. But how we respond? That’s where the power lives. When we teach our kids how to pause, breathe, and pivot, we’re not just helping them in the moment, we’re giving them lifelong tools for handling disappointment, change, and challenge. Next time things go sideways, just say it with them: Pause. Breathe. GUEST Handshake Raising Confident Resilient Kids #shorts

We don’t just want our kids to look confident, we want them to feel it deep down. Because confidence isn’t built in a day, it’s built in the everyday. It’s in how we prepare them to show up, speak up, and stand tall in spaces that might feel intimidating. A handshake is just the start; what really matters is what they believe about themselves when they offer it. That they belong. That they matter. That they have something valuable to say. So keep practicing. Keep encouraging. And remind your child: their presence is powerful. #RaisingLeaders #ConfidentKids #ParentingWithPurpose #ChildDevelopment #SocialSkillsMatter #HowToTalkToKids #DrRobynSilverman #KidsCanLead

When Your Teen Asks Are You Disappointed in Me? #shorts

When your teen asks, “Are you disappointed in me?”, it can stop you in your tracks. This is a moment that matters. Try saying: “Nothing you do will ever stop me from loving you. I might not love every choice, but I always love you. I’m so glad you came to me, tell me what’s on your mind.” Why does this work? It reassures them that your love isn’t conditional. It reminds them they’re safe with you, even when they mess up or feel ashamed. Short. Simple. And it keeps the door open so they can talk it through with you instead of shutting down. Your kids need to know they are more than their mistakes. Save this for when you need it, and share below: Have you ever had a moment like this with your teen? Power With Moments with our Kids #shorts

"Power over is only going to take you and your relationship so far… Power with is what really creates deep, lasting connections with our kids.” I love how Dr. Lynyetta Willis puts this. In our recent conversation on the podcast, we talked about how everyday routines, even something as simple as winding down together with an audiobook at night, can be an incredible opportunity to co-create solutions with our kids instead of just trying to control them. When we shift from power over to power with, we don’t lose our authority, we gain trust, teamwork, and real influence. It’s these small moments of connection and collaboration that strengthen our bond and help our kids feel safe, seen, and capable. Could your family use more “power with” moments? Start with one tiny routine and watch what changes. Listen to this full conversation with Dr. Lynyetta Willis, it’s packed with insights that can transform your parenting. How to Heal Our Family Out of a State of Stable Misery #shorts

Let’s talk about spanking. So many people say, “Well, I was spanked and I turned out fine.” I hear this all the time. Here’s what research actually shows: yes, fear-based discipline like spanking can stop a behavior in the moment, but it comes at a cost. When a child is hit, their brain goes into survival mode. That fight-flight-freeze response is the “red zone.” And when kids are in the red zone, they can’t truly learn. Their brains are wired to survive, not to absorb lessons. So what do they actually learn? To fear you, to shut down, or to hide things next time. You can’t teach skills, respect, or better choices in that state. Connection, not fear, is where real learning sticks. Parenting isn’t about “winning” a moment. It’s about building trust that lasts for years to come. It’s okay if you grew up with spanking, many of us did. But we know better now, so we can do better for our kids. Save this, share it, and let’s break old patterns together. Listen and learn more in my conversation with Dr. Willis and follow to grab more scripts and tips that help you parent with connection and courage. #ParentingTips #PositiveParenting #ParentingWithoutFear #ConnectedParenting #StopSpanking #CycleBreaking #GentleParenting #ParentingSupport #ChildDevelopment #DrRobynSilverman #ParentingAdvice #RespectfulParenting #HowToTalkToKids

When Your Child Says Nobody Likes Me #shorts

When your child says things like “I can’t do anything right” or “Nobody likes me,” it’s so natural to want to jump in and fix it right away. But what they really need in that moment is you, your calm presence, your curiosity, and your empathy. Instead of rushing to reassure or solve, pause and: 1️⃣ Clarify: “What makes you say that?” or “Did something happen today that made you feel like that?” Their words are clues. Let them lead you deeper. 2️⃣ Empathize: “That sounds really hard.” Or, “I’ve felt that way too.” You don’t have to agree with the belief, just sit with the feeling. 3️⃣ Listen: Hold the space without explaining it away or fixing it immediately. When we listen well, kids often find their own strength and perspective again. You don’t have to panic, fix, or have all the answers, you just have to make way for the story behind the sentence. That’s where trust and connection grow. 💛 #ParentingTips #EmpathyInParenting #ParentChildConnection #HowToTalkToKids #DrRobynSilverman #ActiveListening #RaisingResilientKids

Teaching Kids Empathy

One of the greatest gifts we can nurture in our children is empathy. Yes, research shows empathy is inborn, but it also needs to be modeled, taught, and practiced again and again. When kids learn to read emotions and take the perspective of others, they understand that their actions impact someone else’s feelings. They see that despite our differences, every person deserves to be treated with dignity and humanity. Want to help your child grow this skill? Try this: - Talk about emotions openly, yours and theirs. - Practice using I feel statements. - Notice how actions affect feelings, in real life, in books, or shows. - Encourage listening and showing concern when someone is upset or struggling. Empathy connects us, strengthens our relationships, and makes our world better. Let’s raise kids who see beyond themselves and choose kindness, even when it’s hard. #EmpathyMatters #RaisingKindKids #ParentingWithPurpose #PerspectiveTaking #ParentingTips #HowToTalkToKids #DrRobynSilverman

How to Talk to Kids about the Flood in Texas #shorts

When tragedy strikes, like the devastating floods in Texas, many parents ask me: Should I talk to my kids about this? The answer, for many families, is yes. When we don’t talk about hard things, kids fill in the blanks, often with fear that’s bigger than the truth. Here’s how to have these tough conversations: ✅ Start with: A terrible thing happened in Texas. What have you heard? ✅ Gently fill in the facts in an age-appropriate way. ✅ Show them where it happened on a map, and where you are, to answer the unspoken Am I safe? ✅ Name their feelings. It’s okay to feel scared, sad, or confused. I feel that way too. ✅ Talk about the helpers, the neighbors, camp staff, first responders who saved lives. ✅ Let kids help. Pick a vetted nonprofit together. ✅ And remember: If you or your child are struggling, don’t go it alone. Ask for support. To the families in Texas whose lives have been forever changed by this flood, my heart is with you. May you find help, hope, and moments of light in the days ahead. Let’s lead our children with empathy, truth, trust, and love, even in life’s hardest moments. 💛 Sending strength to everyone affected. #ParentingThroughHardTimes #HowToTalkToKids #EmpathyMatters #ParentingSupport #TexasFloods #WeStandWithTexas #DrRobynSilverman

Is Your Childs Identity holding them back or pushing them forward? #shorts

When kids talk about themselves, they’re building their identity in real-time. Are the words they’re using holding them back, or pushing them forward? “I’m awful at math.” “I’m stupid.” “I’m not good like you.” These words become beliefs. And beliefs shape choices, effort, and confidence. We can teach our kids to shift those limiting labels into growth-focused truths: 🌟 “I’m someone who tries new things.” 🌟 “I’m brave when it counts.” 🌟 “I need some extra help in this class, and that’s okay.” One powerful conversation, one small reframe, can help a child see themselves in a whole new way. Let’s help our kids choose words that open doors, not close them. Save this as your reminder and share it with someone who’s raising resilient, confident kids. How can we Help Children Gain Mental Strength #shorts

When our kids compare themselves to everyone else, they’re handing their power away, tying their confidence to what others do instead of what they can do. One of the best gifts we can give our children is the ability to stand strong in who they are, even when they notice what others have or how others perform. Real mental strength comes from within, and it’s something we can help our kids grow every single day. Instead of asking, “How do I measure up?” we want our kids to ask, “How am I growing? What do I need to feel proud of myself?” Try these ideas: • Teach your child to create a simple catchphrase that reminds them of their power, “I can do it” or “I am enough.” • Encourage them to write down their strengths and stick that note where they’ll see it every day, a mirror, their binder, or their desk. • Help them chart their own progress, not someone else’s. Our kids can’t always control what others do, but they can learn to see, appreciate, and strengthen what makes them shine. That’s true mental strength. Save this as your reminder, and follow me for more ways to help your kids build resilience and confidence, inside and out. #DrRobynSilverman #HowToTalkToKids #ParentingTips #ResilientKids #ChildConfidence #PositiveParenting #RaisingStrongKids #MindsetMatters #ParentingSupport #ConnectedParenting

7 Conversation Starters to to Go Deeper with Your Kids (Even with Tough Stuff) #shorts

Why do they work? They create safety, show respect, and remind kids they can share without fear of judgment. Here they are again with a short insight into why each one works: 1. Start with an Invitation, Not an Interrogation “Hey, I’ve been wondering what’s been on your mind lately. Want to talk?” Why it works: An open invitation gives your child the choice to engage, without pressure or putting them on the spot. 2. Be Curious, Not Critical “Tell me more about that. What was the best part? What was the hardest?” Why it works: Open-ended questions help kids reflect and share details. It feels like an exploration, not an interrogation. 3. Use a Gentle Bridge “When I was your age, I remember feeling… Does any of that feel familiar to you?” Why it works: Sharing a piece of your own story reminds your child they are not alone and helps them feel understood. 4. Ask Permission “Would it be okay if I asked you something? You don’t have to answer right now.” Why it works: Asking permission shows respect for your child’s boundaries. It gives them a sense of control over what they share. 5. Offer an Out “If you ever don’t want to talk about it right now, that’s okay. I’m here when you’re ready.” Why it works: Letting your child know they can pause or come back to a topic later removes pressure and builds trust. 6. End with Reassurance “I hope you know you can tell me anything, even the hard stuff, and I’ll still love you just the same.” Why it works: Kids need to know your love isn’t conditional on what they share. This feeling of safety makes them more likely to open up. 7. A Gentle Prompt for Next Time “What’s something you wish grown-ups asked about, but they don’t?” Why it works: This flips the script and invites your child to lead with what matters most to them. Conversations like these plant seeds. Even if they don’t open up right away, you are showing them you are ready whenever they are. Save these ideas, share them with a friend who might need them, and tell me: Which one do you want to try this week? #HowToTalkToKids #ParentingScripts #ParentingConnection #DrRobynSilverman #ParentingTips #DeeperConversations #EmotionalSafety

How to Reconnect with Kids in the Disconnected World #shorts

We live in a world that makes true connections harder than ever, and as parents, it’s easy to feel like we’re falling behind. Screens, stress, and busy schedules can pull us away from what matters most: truly seeing our kids and teaching them how to handle big feelings in a disconnected world. In this powerful clip from my conversation with the incredible Dr. Jody Carrington, we dive into the #1 lesson we want our kids to learn, emotional regulation. As Dr. Jody says, it’s not about telling our kids to calm down, it’s about showing them how to find calm in chaos by staying connected to them, even when they’re falling apart. When we model calm, steady presence, we give our kids the tools they need to come back to themselves, again and again. That’s how we reconnect, by being their safe place when the world feels overwhelming. If you’ve ever thought you’ve messed up because you lost your temper or life felt too hard, please remember: you haven’t lost your ability to be a good parent, you’ve just lost access to it for a moment. Take a breath, come back to connection, and keep showing your child how to stay grounded. This is how we close the gap in a disconnected world, one calm moment at a time. Listen to my full conversation with Dr. Jody Carrington about reconnecting with our kids in a world that pulls us apart, it’s out now on all podcast platforms. #DrRobynSilverman #DrJodyCarrington #HowToTalkToKids #ReconnectingWithKids #ParentingWisdom #ParentingPodcast #EmotionalRegulation #CoRegulation #ConnectedParenting #GentleParenting #MindfulParenting #ParentingSupport
